Summary

With more than one PC in the office, you will most likely want to share the Internet connection. The first step is to network your PCs.

If you have not networked your computers do so now.

Manual Solution

If you have already networked your computers, follow the instructions below.

Note: Set up DHCP on each computer. If you are connecting through a hub, order a second computer access. Contact customer support.

Windows XP Note: NetBEUI is no longer installed on your hard drive by default. Copy the following files from your XP CD to your hard drive:

  • copy nbf.sys into the \SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ directory
  • copy netnbf.inf into the \INF\ directory
  1. Right-click My Network Places.
  2. Left-click Properties.
  3. Right-click the network connection for your local area network.
  4. Make sure that the following three items appear in your network properties.
    • Client for Microsoft Windows
    • File and Printer sharing for Microsoft Windows
    • NetBEUI
  5. If you do not have these components, click Add. NETBEUI is found in the Protocol component type and the Client for Microsoft networks and file/print sharing are both found in the services area.
  6. Right-click My Computer and select Properties.
  7. Click the Network Identification tab. This screen shows your current computer name and workgroup. If you need to change it, click the Properties button. Make sure you are part of a Workgroup and not a domain.
  8. You MUST enable at least one file or printer share on your computers:
    • Create a new folder on your hard drive and call it ‘shared’.
    • Right click on this folder and select ‘Sharing’ from the menu that appears.
    • Select “Shared as” and give the share a name or leave it as it is.
  9. This defaults to full control for the user group "Everyone." This means that anyone that can log into this computer will have access to this file, folder, or printer.
  10. All steps complete.

Repeat the previous steps for all computers.
